Hi,

Sort of the same old question but slightly different!

Is there any chance that I can register an M series in France on a carte grise de collection that is currently on UK plates registered 1972?
The problem is it left that factory with no engine or gearbox and then had a Rover V8 fitted. This was then replaced with a newer Rover V8 more recently and had the gearbox ,brakes etc upgraded.
Obviously no chance of getting a Certificate of Conformity for it!!
I suspect the answer will be a resounding "NO! don't even think about it" but........

What is written on the V5? V8?

The only easy way is Carte Grise Collection. If the V5 has information about original engine when it was built there is no problem. But if the engine has been changed you have a problem because you need a photo of the engine in the car

Do you speak about this beautifull 3000M V8 for sale at Fernhurst?
Saddly it will be very difficult to import, even on oltimer "collection" basis I guess.
You could try to retrieve a Canadian 5000M COC equivallent, which is called SGS certificate.
As 5000 M where specific to Canada, and only made there.

Yes it's the one at Fernhurst but I can't gamble that amount of money only to find out in the end that I can't run it legally over here. Therefore I have to be sure beforehand. I think trying pretending it is something it is not runs too high a risk of getting rejected.

What's the engine number on the V5C ? What's the engine number stamped on the Ident plate ? What's the Number stamped on the Engine ?
If they are ALL the SAME NUMBER i think you can get a "Carte Grise Collection" no problem.
If ANY are different there is NO WAY for France

Thanks. I need to check the Ident plate - if it has one. The V5 does match the number stamped on the engine though.

I have just done "Carte Grise Collection" this summer for my 1976 3000M and there is each time more and more control.
You need photo "engine in car showing number stamped in block"
"Ident plate showing chassis number + engine number"
So the same engine number engraved on "Ident plate"
Photo copy of "V5C" showing same chassis number + engine number.
